Believed by ancient people to actually contain fire, Opal has long been ascribed many mystical and healing properties. Geologically, Opal is more than 60 million years old. The rainbow of fire is produced by the diffraction of white light through a micro-structure of silica spheres. Each size sphere reflects light of a different wavelength. This sterling silver jewelry piece is set with an inlay of a matrix of iridescent white opal.
