Each piece begins with the study of the live animal portrayed. A wax prototype is made by the artist, detailing the special features of the species. Cast in sterling silver, each figure is checked by hand, sculpted smooth, and polished. Some pieces are finished by hand painting multiple layers of overlapping enamels for realistic color. Pieces are treated to protect them from tarnishing.
